ART

Art and 8th Grade Spanish

Art - We will be using the texts Art in Focus and Art Talk to supplement our exploration of the elements, principles and history of art. All students must have a drawing tablet that may be kept in the classroom. A good pencil must be brought to class everyday. There will be times that students will be asked to bring in materials form home to supplement their hands-on projects such as a bar of soap, photos of themselves, a scene from a magazine they like etc. There will be lead time and grades given for bringing in these items to class by the deadline. Arrangements should be made with me to complete art work not finished during the designated class time to be completed in the next Learn More. This class meets during A week only and often times students will need to be planning and thinking about there up and coming work for the next week.

Conversational & Cultural Spanish - We will use the Paso A Paso A book to cover the basic grammatical functions of the Spanish language. This class meets every other day and requires regular study outside the classroom. Students are given allot of support in class to succeed. We will make flashcards on class time and all students will be given vocabulary sheets. Because each student does not have their own book ALL work is copied on the copier for them to put in their notebook. I regularly remind the class that "if I write it on the overhead - you write it in your notebook." The first day of class students are given a how to study guide and are expected to study every night. Each student MUST have a 3 ring notebook (either a Spanish section or dedicated notebook) with paper and a pencil that is brought to class every day.

7th Grade Art

The seventh grade art class is based on the art of  Asia, Australia and Africa. The goals of the class are for students to learn to think about, problem solve and plan all the art they create. These are skills they can use for the rest of their school careers. This class meets every other day for two quarters. A pencil is needed everyday and there are occasions when students will be asked to bring in supplemental materials. I grade for participation, quality, effort and each finished project grade counts 4 times.

6th Grade

The 6th grade students have one quarter (9 weeks) of Art. The projects will relate to the 6th grade Social Studies curriculum. We will look at famous artists, from Europe (including Russia) and South America, and try to recreate some of their techniques. There may be times when students will be asked to bring in materials, such as a photo of themselves, a "collage collection" of clippings from magazines to incorporate into their work. Grades will be given for bringing in items by the deadline as they are important to each individual's final product. It is beneficial if students have their own colored pencils and fine point markers.
