A note from the PTO President to the students:  Please remember when we come
to school each day to hold true the 6 pillars of character. Practice them every day
at school and home. A reminder to help you be the best that you can be!

Thank you ,
Angel Cordoni, PTO President

Here are the Six Pillars:

Trustworthiness: Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat or steal • Be reliable —

reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family, friends and country.

Respect:  Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule • Be tolerant of
differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings
of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults
and disagreements.

Responsibility: Do what you are supposed to do • Persevere: keep on trying!
• Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you
act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your choices.

Fairness: Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to
others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly.

Caring: Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care • Express gratitude
• Forgive others • Help people in need.

Citizenship: Do your share to make your school and community better •
Cooperate • Get involved in community affairs • Stay informed; vote • Be a good
neighbor • Obey laws and rules • Respect authority • Protect the environment.

DTMS Clean-Up & Renovations

Saturday, February 13
started out a little snowy, but with the help of DTMS
parents,
students and staff we got a lot of work done and WOW does the
WinstonNet Lab look great!
Mr. Herring, Mr. Penn and Mr. Spicer moved shelves, tables, desks and other
equipment into the previously unused space for the students - DTMS' new 3R
-Reference and Reading Room
. Tressa Bean and her great kids (all 6) were
a tremendous help with all of the cleaning and moving books!!  I helped with
moving the books and cleaning as well and took some pics (see below.) The
space on the other side of the WinstonNet Lab is being set up as DTMS' new
21st Century Classroom.
The 21st Century Classroom (funding provided by the
A.F. Clement and Jessica T. Fogle Funds administered by the
Winston-Salem Foundation) will use technology to enhance and expand instruction.
Teachers will be able to use a computer and 1-3 Eno MultiMedia Interactive white
boards to deliver information while each student in the class will be using a Acer
netbook to follow, expand on information being provided, and interact with the
teacher, white board, and other students.
This new arrangement divides a large space into three usable areas for students
and teachers
: the WinstonNet lab with 34 computers; the Reference and Reading
Room which is
an attractive space for the kids to study, do homework, read
magazines, and work with reference materials; and the 21st Century Classroom.
