Course Outline

The seventh grade curriculum includes five focus areas: Number and Operations, Measurement, Geometry, Data Analysis and Probability, and Algebra.  Each student will receive valuable information regarding these different aspects throughout the year to better prepare them for their educational future and beyond.

Homework

Students and parents can expect homework at least three times a week.  Various homework assignments are assigned to students throughout the week to adequately prepare them for weekly quizzes and tests.

Quizzes and tests are given every Friday.  Parents should expect to see and sign a quiz if the student received a 75 or below.  Parents should also expect to see and sign every test.

Highlights

1st Quarter:

Students will learn how to solve expressions, equations, and inequalities, including one-step, two-step, and multi-step processes.  The expressions, equations, and inequalities will include integers and rational numbers.

2nd Quarter:

Students will master skills revolving around a large review section, which includes fractions, powers and exponents, factorizations, GCF, LCM, multiplying and dividing monomials, and negative exponents.  Second quarter also involves arithmetic and geometric sequences, scientific notation, and the metric system.  Students will also learn about ratios, proportions, and percents.

3rd Quarter:

During third quarter, students learn a variety of mathematical aspects regarding Geometry.  Some of these topics include angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, and transformations.

4th Quarter:

Students will continue to learn some geometric aspects such as surface area and volume of several 3-D shapes.  They will also learn about measures of central tendency, stem-and-leaf plots, and box-and-whisker plots.  During fourth quarter, students will master skills regarding linear equations and functions, as well.
