6th Grade Math

Course Outline

This year students will be introduced to a variety of math concepts:

	Decimals: Rounding, Comparing, Ordering, Estimating, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing
	Fractions: Greatest Common Factor, Simplifying Fractions, Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions, Least Common Multiplies, Comparing and Ordering Fractions, Writing Decimals as Fractions, Writing Fractions as Decimals, Adding and Subtracting Fractions, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions, and Sequences
	Measurements: Area and Perimeter, Length in the Customary System, Capacity and Weight, Length in the Metric System, Mass and Capacity in the Metric System
	Integers: Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, Dividing, and Transformations
	Algebra: Solving Equations
	Ratio, Proportions, and Percents: Modeling Percents, Percents and Decimals, Percent of a Number, Estimating Percents
	Probability: Experimental and Theoretical Probability, Outcomes, Making Predictions, Probability and Area, Permutations, and Combinations
	Geometry: Angles, Drawing Diagrams, Measuring Areas of Parallelograms, Triangles, Trapezoids, and Circles

Helpful Tips

It is important that each student practices their multiplication facts. Any time you have free time in the car, at the dinner table, in line at the grocery store, or etc. please ask your child simple multiplication problems.

If you want to keep a deck of cards in your glove compartment students can turn over two cards and multiply the two numbers (face cards represent 10).
